The Main Entry Routes
Basically, there are two highways in: Officers and Airmen. Pick your lane.
1. Commissioned Officers
Want to be in charge? Here’s how you get there:
- Common Ways In:
- AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test) – The big one
- NCC Special Entry – For the NCC crowd
- UPSC NDA/CDS – Only if you really love exams
AFCAT Quick Facts:
- Branches: Flying, Ground Duty (Technical), Ground Duty (Non-Technical)
- Application Window: June 2–July 1, 2025 (for July 2026 courses)
- Where: Online application—don’t snooze on the deadline
Eligibility, Broken Down:
- Age:
- Flying Branch: 20–24 years (26 with a Commercial Pilot License)
- Ground Duty (Tech/Non-Tech): 20–26 years
- Education:
- Flying: Degree with 60%, plus Physics & Math at 10+2 (or B.E./B.Tech with 60%)
- Tech: Engineering/Tech degree with required marks
- Non-Tech: Any degree (60%+), sometimes specific post-grad for certain jobs
Selection Process:
- AFCAT Written Exam: Online test (General Awareness, English, Math, Reasoning, Military Aptitude). Techies—add the EKT.
- AFSB Interview: If you pass, get ready for:
- Officer Intelligence Test
- Picture Perception & Discussion
- Psych test
- Group activities (discussions, planning, outdoor stuff)
- Personal interview
- Flying Branch: CPSS (pilot aptitude) test
- Document Check: Bring your originals—no fakes, please.
- Medical: Super thorough. Don’t try to sneak past if you’re not in shape.
- Final Merit List: All scores combined; best of the best move on.
NCC Special Entry:
- Have the NCC Air Wing ‘C’ certificate?
- Skip the written exam
- Go straight to the AFSB interview and medical
- Only for the Flying Branch
2. Airmen
Not after the officer life? No problem. Here’s the airmen route:

- Selection: Details change every year, but be ready for written tests, physicals, and interviews
